In May – June 2024, the UPD team surveyed and researched the main Secure Data Environments that hold health data in the UK. We set out to answer the main questions that members of the public have, including: who is responsible for it, what data does it hold, what has happened with (or is happening with) the data in terms of projects / outputs, and how much funding has it had. These questions often got progressively difficult to answer, culminating in the funding question being the most difficult. This is partly because we didn’t have a very specific definition of ‘funding’ (in terms of what was in or out of scope) but also because some teams wanted to answer it in different ways. Some teams even refused to provide any information on funding given or costs. We are grateful to those who provided information
