Today, Understanding Patient Data has sent a letter to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Matt Hancock. This letter is joint with the AMRC, Academy of Medical Sciences and Wellcome.

It responds to the Life Sciences Sector Deal and Code of Conduct for data-driven health and care technology which take positive steps to ensure the UK can unlock the value of health data and drive healthcare innovation. However, the letter calls for more to be done to meaningfully engage patients, publics and clinicians on how to ensure a fair exchange of value for the NHS, and patients, when dealing with technology developers and the use of patient data.

We offer to work in partnership with the Department of Health and Social Care to lead work to research publics’, patients’ and health professionals’ attitudes into different commercial models for using NHS data.
